65th ANNIVERSARY

WAR BRIDE AND HUSBAND CELEBRATE
Darwin and Maurine (Mickie) Cook met on May 8, 1942 at a church dance in Pocatello, Idaho. They were married in Columbus, Georgia on April 18, 1943 while Darwin was stationed in the U.S. Army at Fort Benning. His military service took him to England, France and Germany where he served as a Master Sergeant in the 187th engineer combat battalion. This unit manned the assault boats for the infantry crossing of the Rhine River in March of 1945.
The Cook's returned to Pocatello after the war where Darwin began his career in banking with First Security Bank and they settled down to raise their family which eventually numbered five sons. They relocated to Tucson in September of 1962 where Darwin was employed by Southern Arizona Bank, 1st National Bank, and First Interstate Bank before his retirement in 1986.
Maurine was a stay at home mom but worked part time at TUSD where she was employed as a cashier. She retired in 1991. After retirement Darwin and Maurine served an 18 month LDS church mission in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Three of their sons; Craig (Kathy), Randy (Jeanmarie), and Bruce (Cally) live in Tucson. Another son Paul (Myrna) lives in St. David. One son, Gary, passed away in 1987. Darwin and Maurine have 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The extended family continues to enjoy traditional outings to the White Mountains and to Rocky Point Mexico.
One of the activities of their anniversary celebration was to relive a typical date for young lovers in the 1940's. They drove to a fast food drive-in and had burgers and milkshakes served at their car window while listening to the big band music of Glen Miller.
