Chiasson
65th ANNIVERSARY
October 24th, 2009
Robert and Frances Chiasson celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on October 24, 2009. Their story began when Private Robert Chiasson married Frances Kientzle on October 24, 1944 in Pittsfield, IL, while on leave from the Army during WWII. After the war, Bob earned a Bachelor's degree from Illinois College and a Master's degree in Zoology from the University of Illinois. Bob, Fran, and their three small children moved to Tucson, where Bob began teaching at the University of Arizona. He earned his Ph.D. at Stanford University in 1955 and returned to the University of Arizona, now with five children. Bob retired from the UA as a full professor.
Meanwhile, Frances gave birth to three more children and completed her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in mathematics education. She taught for many years within the Tucson Unified School District; first at Pueblo High School, then at Sahuaro, where she remained until her retirement.
Bob, Fran, and six of their eight children spent a sabbatical year in Kumasi, Ghana in 1969-70. Then, in 1976-77, they enjoyed another sabbatical year in Edinburgh, Scotland with their three youngest children. Bob and Fran have traveled extensively over the years, but now spend most of their time at home in Tucson. They are looking forward to a cruise with their family in December to celebrate their anniversary.
Their eight children have so far produced a total of thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, all of whom usually gather together every five years for a family reunion. The full Chiasson clan, spread throughout the world, wishes Bob and Fran (our parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents) a joyful 65th anniversary.
