70th ANNIVERSARY
October 21st, 2009
They were married in Chicago, Ill on October 21, 1939. they came to Arizona by way of Princeton, NJ when Oscar was transferred here by RCA in 1956. He is a U of A grad. They lived in Las Cruses, NM for a couple of years while he worked for LTV on the Apollo program. When they returned to Tucson, he managed the first recycling center in Tucson for the Beverage Industry Recycling Program until retiring. As children we were blessed to have our mother at home. She was fully involved in supporting her children in all of their activities. When we left home she went to work for McClellan's and then for the Recycling Center. Oscar served as both a Trustee and Secretary of Elks Lodge #385. Irene was an active member of the Elks Ladies Auxiliary.
Both were very involved in the Civil Air Patrol. Four generations of the family have been members. They have been inducted into the Arizona Civil Air Patrol Hall of Fame.
Irene and Oscar have three children, Marilyn White, Martin Neumer and Barbara (Dick) Ashton; three grandchildren, Tommy White, Stacey Thompson and Todd Thompson; three great-grandchildren, Christopher Thompson, David Thompson, Lorena Ruman; and great-great-grandson, Brady Thompson.
