Cleaning out my closet

My last activity for today was cleaning out my closet with Julie from piece by piece. I knew going into this that Julie was going to remove a lot of items from my closet that I shouldn't be wearing. As I started growing out of my old, nice clothes, I refused to buy expensive clothes in a larger size because I was convinced that I would lose weight eventually. I started picking things up here and there as needed from Target or Old Navy. I was purchasing clothes on in impulse, just to have something that fit.

Julie went through my closet and pulled out dresses and shirts that I just should not be wearing. She gave me a lot of great tips on things that should and shouldn't be worn together, what colors should be worn during certain seasons, and things like that. We really had a great time.

Some quick tips:

1. Your pants shouldn't sit above your belly button.
2. Don't mix winter and summer clothes. I once wore a cute summer dress with a heavy sweater over it. Julie wasn't happy to hear that. :)
3. Some colors, such as pink, shouldn't be worn during the fall or winter seasons.
4. Find a great pair of black pants, something you can wear twice a week with different tops. No one will ever know.
5. Keep your clothes separated by season. This will insure that you don't mix them or wear them during the wrong season. I just put all my summer clothes in my son's closet.
6. Take anything you don't wear out of your closet. Youth on their own takes donations, as well as some other places around town.

At this point, we have removed all the items that I shouldn't be wearing. I can't wait to learn more about what I should be wearing, and start adding those to my closet.

Day One - Intial Facial and Hair Conditioning

All I can say is "Woah!" I can't believe I've never done this before - and I highly recommend it. My face has never felt so clean, and I feel so relaxed. I was expecting to have my face cleaned, and have a mask applied. What I experienced was so much more. I was taken to a softly lit room with soothing music playing that set the tone for a relaxing experience. The video shows this experience from the initial steaming to the removal of the heated mittens.

Having my hair conditioned was a new experience as well. I've had my hair cut and highlighted, with the traditional shampoo, but this was different. Gadabout has a quiet area in the salon where they bathe your hair. While this is happening, you watch ocean waves on a large flat screen on the wall. It was very calming, I honestly think I could have fallen asleep. I love having someone else wash my hair. The conditioner used was a rinse out, so I was lucky enough to make 2 trips to this relaxing room. My hair feels so much softer and has this gorgeous shine. You can't even tell that I've had highlights in the past.

I feel incredible - almost like a princess. To have someone else taking care of me is such a new feeling, something I can definitely get used to.

Day One - Intial Fitness and Nutrition Meeting

I just finished meeting with Peder at Performance Fitness. I have to admit that I really excited about his workout plan. I've never exercised regularly, so I hope I can keep up. My biggest challenge will be sticking to the healthy diet. I typically pickup dinner on the way home 2-3 nights a week, McDonald's and Eegee's being my favorites. Peder has already set a 'No fast food' rule. My main goals are to lose the extra fat, and add some tone to my arms, abs and legs.

Day One - Before Meetings

No turning back now. I have 3 appointments today to kick-off the makeover. I am pretty nervous about having the cameras with me today - but we will see how it goes.

My Introduction

My name is Chrystal, and I am a 27-year old mother to 3 boys. Initially I was a little nervous about doing this so publicly, but I'm getting more excited every day. Once I understood everything that was going to be involved, I couldn't pass it up, even if my before pictures were going to be posted on the Internet.

I have two main reasons for doing this makeover. The first is to get myself in shape to help improve my energy levels - for all those trips to the park - and build my self-confidence. The second is to increase my professionalism for continued career growth.

I will use this blog to keep everyone up to date on what I'm doing, how it made me feel, what's working and what isn't, and any progress that is made. Please feel free to send me questions or comments as I go through this journey.
