Cara's BlogThe last day of the makeover was great. Peder took my measurements at Performance. I don't know yet what my body fat percentage is, but I know I lost somewhere around 10 inches total: 3 off my waist, 3 of my hips, 1 off each thigh, and a half inch off each calf. Peder was as surprised as I was; I guess when you see someone all the time it can be tough to see changes that are happening little by little.
After measurements, I went to Gadabout. First, Tammy did my hair. She put red and gold highlights in it, cut about four or five inches off, and layered it. It looks awesome, I'm so happy! Next Alma did my nails, and she did a fabulous job as usual. Then Danielle did my makeup, including fake eyelashes which I had never used before. It turned out beautifully.
Then I went to Piece by Piece Wear and tried on clothes. Julie helped me pick out a great outfit (which you will see in the photos that will be up online next week). I especially love the khaki linen slacks, they're super comfortable and very flattering.
After that I did a photo shoot at the Tucson Newspapers studio, and like I said, lots of those photos will be up on the site soon. All in all it was a great day. I did better with the fitness part of the makeover than I realized. I love my hair and my new outfit.
I'm so glad I did this, and I'm so thankful to everyone involved: all the sponsors, as well as my family, friends, and co-workers for being so supportive. I couldn't have done it without any of you, so thank you!! This is still only the beginning; I have more fitness goals to reach, and I'm working on building a more professional wardrobe. This was a great way to launch myself into keeping better habits, and also a good confidence booster as I start my new job as a caseworker for CPS. I was very fortunate to have this opportunity, and I will definitely take everything I've learned with me as I work toward my goals!
Today is the last day of the makeover! First, this morning I'll go to Performance Fitness for measurements. I know I haven't made as much progress in this area as I wanted to, so I'm not really looking forward to that part. Next, I'll go to Gadabout on Speedway to get my hair, nails, and make up done. After that, I'll visit Julie at Piece by Piece Wear and we'll pick out some new clothes! Finally, I'll go to the Tucson Newspapers studio where they will take the "after" photos (which should be posted on this site sometime next week). I think I'm most excited about getting my hair done and trying on clothes.
I'll post again later on and write about how the day went!
I went to the dentist for teeth whitening on Friday. I won't lie - it was a very uncomfortable procedure. They put a bleaching paste kind of stuff on your teeth and then go over them with the laser. Usually they do your top and bottom teeth at the same time, but apparently my mouth is too small to be able to do that, so they had to do the top and then the bottom. This meant being in the chair with my mouth pried open for about two hours - wide awake, of course. I was so glad when it was over. That evening, my teeth were really sensitive, and they were hurting a lot even when I wasn't eating or drinking anything. (Apparently some people's teeth are much more sensitive to the procedure than others', and I'm one of the lucky sensitive ones! :\) I had some burns on my gums and inside my lips, too, but they didn't really bother me after the procedure was over, and they healed very quickly. Fortunately the next day my teeth didn't hurt at all and were only a little sensitive to hot and cold, so at least the pain didn't last long. They're definitely whiter, although it was hard to tell the first day. They keep getting whiter in the few days after the procedure, and there's a noticeable difference now. ![]()
I worked out with Andrew on Saturday, and I was supposed to meet him today too, but we're shorthanded at work so I had to cancel. It doesn't look like I'll fit in any more work outs with the trainers before the end of the makeover, so I'll have to do my best on my own this week. I'm looking forward to my facial tomorrow (those glycolic peels really help my skin), and I can't wait to get my hair done on Thursday and pick out new clothes!!
I worked out with Peder twice this week, and I'm back to being sore all over! We've been doing upper and lower body excercises, as well as core, every work out. Tomorrow I'll do some cardio with Andrew.
This afternoon I'm going to the dentist to get my teeth whitened. I'm a little nervous about the procedure and any discomfort there might be afterward, but mostly I'm just excited to have whiter teeth. ![]()
The end of this makeover comes at a wonderfully ideal time. I'm going to start my new job as a CPS caseworker in the first week of July, and I'll look and feel great right in time for this new challenge. I think it will help me make a good first impression. I already feel more confident, so I can't wait to find out how awesome I'll feel with the new hair, clothes, teeth, etc.
I made it back from Europe, over a day late. I won't go into the details, but that was some of the worst luck I've ever had with travel. Consequently, I missed my appointment with Peder this week; hopefully I can meet with Andrew tomorrow.
Next week I have the dentist appointment for teeth whitening, which I'm very excited about. The week after that, I'll get a facial, and on Thursday the 29th I'll be at Gadabout all afternoon to get my hair, nails, etc done. I'll also visit Piece by Piece Wear that day. And that'll be the end... I haven't accomplished everything that I wanted to, but I can't blame anyone but myself for that. But, this is a whole lifestyle change, and I don't really expect to reach perfection or anywhere close in three months. I have made a lot of progress, and I've learned so, so much, and I couldn't ask for more than that.
