Event Description:
In his masterwork, Mysterium Coniunctionis, C.G.
Jung writes of the phenomena of compulsion as
the
great mystery of psychical life. Compulsion has
two
sources in the unconscious, Jung writes, the
shadow and the self.
By self Jung means the wholeness and implicit
order of the total personality, conscious and
unconscious. By shadow he means [1]
disavowed,
split off and repressed parts of the self and also
[2] (self- and other-) destructive energies within
the psyche, that cannot be integrated into ones
personality, that have traditionally been called evil.
In this 2 or 3 meeting colloquium an informal
meeting for relaxed discussion we will explore
the value of Jungs view of compulsion for
understanding self-destructive addictive and
impulsive behaviors, and the possibilities of
healing
from them.
