Showcase of Tucson Nurses

The Showcase of Tucson Nurses is a sharing educational conference where Tucson nurses exchange innovative health care ideas during a continuing education offering. As a part of the Nurses Week Celebration, this program is a tribute to Tucson nurses who respond daily to the health care needs of the community. Annually more than two hundred nurses from southern Arizona, educators, staff nurses, administrators, clinical nurse specialists, nurse practitioners, researchers, and other practicing professionals from a variety of disciplines attend the Showcase to learn about current nursing research and practice, and network with their colleagues. Many innovative practice ideas, projects, and research studies are being conducted by nurses in the Tucson area. We invite you to share what you are doing. Submit your experience/ideas for consideration as a paper or poster presentation. Mentors will be available to assist you, if needed..

Conference Objectives

Discuss innovative practice ideas; Examine improvements in patient care; Describe approaches to promote evidence-based practice and research utilization; Identify educational methods to enhance patient care; Recognize issues in caring for diverse populations; Discuss leadership issues

Topic Suggestions

Development and implementation of evidence-based practice; Information management and technology; Patient and family education programs; Incorporating cultural diversity into patient care; Successful management approaches; Community health priorities; Care of diverse populations; Strategies for improving healthcare work environments; Nurse recruitment and retention; Infectious disease; Disaster preparedness and response.

Call for Abstracts

The deadline for abstract submissions is December 12, 2008.

Completion of Forms

Please complete the call for abstracts form in its entirety. Abstract text must be typed and should not exceed 300 words. We will accept electronic submissions only using the form provided. Incomplete or faxed submissions will not be considered for review. Link to abstract form

Criteria for Selection

Submitted by Tucson nurses
Adherence to guidelines
Clarity of Abstract
Relevance to one or more conference objectives
Potential for contribution to knowledge and/or practice

Review Process, Notification, and Acceptance The review process will be conducted and selections made based on ability to meet criteria for selection. Only the lead author will receive notification of abstract status. You will receive an accepted or rejected notification via email by the end of February. Your acceptance to participate must be received within one week of notification. Failure to do so will constitute a decline to present. All authors listed on the original abstract will be listed in program materials. Accepted abstracts may be printed in the Conference/Gala program.

Registration fees for primary authors will be waived but you are required to register. Second authors are expected to register to attend the conference and to pay the registration fee. Your completed registration form must be received on or before the published deadline. Failure to register by the cut-off date will constitute a decline to present.
