Arizona's Northwest territory
This quadrant of the Grand Canyon State encompasses historic Kingman (former home of cowboy star Andy Devine), spring break capital Lake Havasu City and the scenic lands of the Hualapai Nation in the Grand Canyon West region.
Scenic northwest drive
We've mapped out some of our favorite road trips from nearly 30 years and a quarter-million miles of Arizona motoring adventures. We favor northern Arizona, but the state is full of other routes to explore. Here are just two.
Antelope Canyon
Upper Antelope Canyon, on the south side of Arizona 98, and Lower Antelope Canyon, on the north side of the highway, were backdrops to such films as Highway to Hell, Raven Hawk, Lightning Jack, Beastmaster 2 and Broken Arrow.
Havasu Falls
Thirty miles west of Grand Canyon Village, a place so beset by hordes of tourists and motorized vehicles that its name could be Grand Central Canyon, is a world apart. It is the serenely spectacular home of the Havasupai Indians
Kingman: Heart of Old Route 66
This quaint, pretty little city -- home to Arizona's old-time railroads and nostalgically embraced as the "heart of the Old Route 66" -- is a jewel. Visitors will discover an early-1900s hotel, and rows of eclectic shops stuffed with antiques.
Lees Ferry
have always wanted to drive to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Unfortunately, the only way to do that has dire consequences: See "Thelma and Louise." But you can come awfully close. The place is called Lees Ferry.
Picture perfect
Take a photo tour of picturesque lands of northwestern Arizona.

It begs visitors to abandon their cars, pull on a sweater and partake in the holiday cheer that fills the streets of the historic, Old West downtown. • "It's everybody's hometown, and it's a very friendly town," said Mayor Jack Wilson. "I think that's what our distinction is." • So if you'd rather see some pine trees instead of cacti for a change, and if you want an excuse to trade in your flip-flops and T-shirts for winter boots and chunky sweaters, then a getaway to Prescott is just a few hours away. • And if you're lucky, it just might snow. ...
