Murphy's, 201 N. Cortez St., 928-445-4044. Well-known steak and seafood place in a classy, historic building.

Gurley Street Grill, 230 W. Gurley St., (928) 445-3234: Known for excellent ribs and great service. One of the better deals in town.

Prescott Brewing Company, 130 W. Gurley St., (928) 771-2795. Offering traditional and non-tradition pub fare with solid selection of brews.

Machu Picchu, 111 Grove., (928) 717-8242. Named after a city in the Andes Mountains, it offers outstanding authentic Peruvian food.

El Chaparral, 628 Miller Valley Road, (928) 445-8447: Don't miss the chimichangas and strawberry margaritas at this restaurant, which has been family owned for more than 40 years.

Where to shop

The downtown area is dominated by specialty and antique shops geared toward tourists.

The Cowboy Life, 210 S. Montezuma, specializes in Western apparel and home decor.

Mountain Christmas, 130 W. Gurley St., No. 101, has everything you need for Christmastime.

Galloping Goose Art Gallery, 162 S. Montezuma, has Indian jewelry and pottery.

Shops are conveniently lumped together in two areas, at Bashford Courts Atrium Mall, 130 W. Gurley St., and at Terra Cotta Court, 124 S. Granite St.
