Just you and the blacktop

By Peter Corbett

There are times when the city's chaos closes in and life seems like a blues song that won't end - until someone says those magic words:

"Road trip!"

I'm talking about tires singing on two-lane blacktop when the Arizona road comes calling. Scenery splashing across the windshield, tunes turned up high and white lines converging on a jagged horizon. When the journey, not so much the destination, is it.

tips

Safety first
Arizona is road trip heaven, but don't become a tragic statistic: Stay alert, buckle up and ALWAYS drive safe.

• NEVER drink & drive.
• Always wear your seat belts.
• Observe posted speed limits.
• Take extra water in summer.
• Use an up-to-date map.
• Leave word where you're going.
